Nick Moore's come-from-behind victory at 215 gave John Glenn something to cheer about even after Clio had secured the team district title.

JOHN GLENN - Feb. 13, 2008 - Neither Ogemaw Heights nor North East Michigan Conference champion John Glenn were able to slow down Clio's wrestling team Wednesday in Division 2 team district play at Glenn.

The Falcons fell to Clio 36-33 in the district semifinal matchup that wasn't nearly as close as the score suggests, while Glenn went on to fall in the championship match 47-22. The Bobcats topped Mt. Morris 57-18 in the other semifinal.

"There were a lot of things we didn't do tonight," said Ogemaw coach Darryl Keeton. "They were stronger in the middle than we were, and we needed to get some wins there.

"I'm looking forward to Saturday. Of course, we expect Andrew to get out (of individual districts to the regional round), and I'd sure like to see Anthony Carrollo and Drake Killinger get out too. Maybe we can get one or two other kids through."

The Falcons never really had much shot at the Mustangs. Clio picked up pins in two of the first three matches of the night, but Funsch got Ogemaw on the board with a hard-fought victory over Chad Lanctot ad 130 pounds to get Ogemaw to within 15-3.

"Andrew beat a very tough kid," Keeton said. "That should be enough to get him a top seed; he hasn't lost to anyone in our district this year."

Kyle Scott put up a valiant fight against Clio's Jeremy Hippensteel, but lost 4-3, and Clio picked up a pair of pins and a major decision to open up a 33-3 lead. Alex Kimball (160) battled Bobby Bouck to the wire in a 12-8 loss, but Clio's lead after that match was an insurmountable 36-3, and the Mustangs voided out their final five weight classes for the final 30 points to save themselves for the championship match against Glenn.

The Bobcats faired a bit better in individual battles, but with injuries and illness forcing them to void four weight classes they didn't have much shot at winning the war.

"We're banged up," said Bobcat coach Jerry LaFlure. "We knew they were good and they work extremely hard. A couple of my guys I didn't want to risk putting out there tonight."

The Bobcats got wins from Chris Pappas (135, 18-11 decision), Brandon Wrezesinski (171, tech fall), Justin LaFlure (189, pin), Nick Moore (215, 11-10 decision) and Kooper Martinez (103, tech fall).

Glenn finished its dual meet season at 26-11.
