TAWAS AREA - Feb. 16, 2008 - Tawas Area knew it needed a win over rival Oscoda Saturday to claim at least a share of the North East Michigan Conference title.
But with John Glenn's defeat of Standish-Sterling, with which Tawas was tied heading into the final game of the regular season, the Braves' 38-14 win over the Owls wrapped up sole possession of the NEMC trophy.
"It was a great season for us, and in many ways exceeded expectations," said Tawas coach Todd Kaems. "The girls did a fantastic job all year and are very deserving of the league championship. I'm very happy for them."
Tawas led 10-6 after the first quarter but outscored the Owls 12-0 in the second quarter for a 22-6 halftime lead and weren't challenged after that.
Rachel Adaline and Gina Gerow each scored nine for the Braves (16-3, 10-2 NEMC).
Heather Spenceley tallied eight for Oscoda (2-18, 0-12).
The two teams play again in the opening round of the district tournament, postponed until Tuesday by icy roads. |
