OSCODA - Jan. 11, 2008 - Tawas Area's girls basketball team reached the midway point of the season unbeaten, finishing the first half of their schedule with a 57-17 victory over Oscoda on Friday.

The game didn't look like a blowout at first as Oscoda cut a 10-point Tawas lead to 14-8 early in the second quarter.

Tawas finished off the half with a 16-pint run for a 30-8 lead, then continued its scoring spree with another 21-2 run that went into the fourth quarter.

"It looked like we were going to struggle on offense again, much like Tuesday's game against Alcona," said Tawas coach Todd Kaems. "It was a nice game as we got all of our players involved.

" ... I really didn't think we would be 10-0 at this point, but the girls have been working hard and improving nicely."

Molly Stoll led a balanced attack with 12 points and Rachel Adaline added nine as 11 Braves got into the scoring column.

Heather Patterson and Margaret Negro topped the Owls (2-9, 0-5) with four points apiece.

The Braves (5-0 in North East Michigan Conference play) host Standish-Sterling at home on Tuesday with a chance to put some distance between themselves and the other league contenders.

"That will be a good indicator as to how good we really are," Kaems said. "If we come out and play defense the way we have been, I think we will be successful."
