PINCONNING - Jan. 4, 2008 - Pinconning's girls basketball team reached the win column for the first time this year -- and the first time since 2005 -- with a 48-28 victory over Oscoda on Friday.
The victory broke a 32-game losing streak that dated to a 42-35 victory at Oscoda on Nov. 1, 2005. It was also the Spartans' first home court victory since Sep. 29, 2005.
Pinny put the game away with a 15-4 game-closing run in the fourth quarter, sparked by six of Lauren Pilot's game-high 21 points.
The Spartans led 25-18 at the half as Pilot scored 11 before halftime. Devyn Podsiadlik added six first-quarter points as well, but Oscoda's Heather Patterson helped her team stay in the game with 11 points before the break.
Pinny made a point of containing Patterson in the second half, and Oscoda couldn't find another answer on offense, though Pinny wasn't able to pull away until the final quarter.
Podsiadlik and Ashley Mrozinski each added eight points for the Spartans (1-8, 1-3 NEMC) while Krystin Inman finished with nine for the Owls (2-8, 0-4).
