ROSCOMMON - Dec. 12, 2007 - Roscommon's size proved to be a barrier to the Ogemaw Heights girls basketball team, which doesn't exactly have tall players in abundance.
The Falcons dropped a 62-53 decision on the Bucks' home court Wednesday, leaving Roscommon still unbeaten with a 5-0 mark.
"We didn't play our best," said Falcon coach Tim Hansen. "They towered over us physically, and that affected us mentally. We didn't do the things we've been working on in practice. Our footwork is still poor and we're reaching and hacking instead of moving our feet."
After playing to a 13-13 tie after one quarter, the Bucks went on a 31-17 run through the middle two periods to take a 14-point lead. The Falcons especially had trouble containing Rachel Peterson inside, who scored 27 point that included 11-of-15 at the free throw line.
The Falcons put 23 points on the board in the fourth quarter but the deficit turned out to be too big to overcome.
"The effort is there," Hansen said. "But the mental part of the game must improve.
"We didn't play as well as we could, but some of that was Rosco. They are 5-0 for a reason. I told the kids taht our three losses are to teams that are a combined 13-2 and they were all close games. Stay positive, work hard and pretty soon we will start knocking some of these teams off."
Ashley Thompson led the Falcons (1-3) with 16 points, with Colleen Wren adding 13.
