OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Feb. 1, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights overcame some rustiness from Tuesday and Wednesday's snow days, which cancled practice, and earned a quality win over a good Houghton Lake team on Friday, 43-38.

After a slow first quarter and a half filled with too many turnovers, the Falcons settled down and played a solid second half to vanquish the Bobcats.

"We had too many turnovers in the first half," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "The kids kept playing hard. I think Houghton Lake was a little tired also having played a tough game against Roscommon the night before, but Eric (Drogt) has his kids playing well as always."

Hansen said the Falcons were able to implement their halftime adjustments well. Locked in a 15-15 halftime tie, the Falcons went on a 13-7 third quarter run and with some help from the Ogemaw student section were able to pull out the win.

"It's nice to see the kids react to the adjustments made during the game," Hansen said. "It means some of the things done in practice are starting to sink in.

"The O-Zoners ... definitely helped out. I'm not sure we would have been able to win the game without them."

Ashley Thompson led Ogemaw with 14 points, with Keshia Allen adding 10 and Colleen Wren scoring eight.

Alicia Killinger scored nine and Megan Drogt scored eight, but the Falcons held high-scoring Bobcat star Molly Collins to just five points.

The Falcons improved to 8-7, while Houghton Lake, which trails only Clare in the Jack Pine Conference, fell to 10-6 overall.
