OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 15, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights put together its most complete girls basketball game of the season and got some clutch free throw shooting from Ashley Thompson and Kristi Killackey in the final minutes as the Falcons topped Whittemore-Prescott 47-42 on Tuesday.
"The kids played their best game of the season," said Ogemaw coach Tim Hansen. "There was some intensity and desire there and the played as a team. Anytime you can beat the defending conference champs that's a good thing."
The Falcons led 26-16 at the half, but W-P fought back as Julie Janish scored seven of her 15 points in the fourth quarter.
The Cardinals made their own cause more difficult by making just 5-of-14 free throws in the fourth quarter. The Falcons were just 3-of-11 at the line until Thompson and Killackey each converted both ends of one-and-one opportunities to seal the win.
"We had a terrible game tonight," said W-P coach Barb Janish. "We missed easy buckets, turned the ball over too many times and didn't rebound well."
"As a team we had only 17 turnovers, by far a season low," Hansen said.
The Falcons also had 20 steals, including six by Keshia Allen, who also had four of her 10 points in the fourth quarter. Killackey and Thompson each had three steals, while Allen and Rilee Palm each led the Falcons with five rebounds.
Janish's 15 points were a season-low (8-3, 3-3 NEMC). Cory Durham added 13 points and Sharesse King had nine. Janish added 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals and Durham had nine rebounds.
Thompson led Ogemaw (4-6, 3-3) with 12 points, with Allen adding 10 and Killackey eight.
W-P faces unbeaten Tawas on Thursday, while the Falcons host Oscoda on Friday.
