OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 11, 2008 - The difference for the Ogemaw Heights girls basketball team in Friday's 63-52 loss to John Glenn came at the free throw line.
The Falcons, who often have sent their opponents to the free throw line twice as many times as they've gotten there themselves didn't have that problem against the Bobcats.
The two teams each shot 33 free throws, but Glenn -- led by Lauren Bluhm's 11-of-11 performance -- hit 27 of theirs (an 82 percent clip), while the Falcons were a shade under 50 percent, making 16.
"That was the difference in the score," said Falcon coach Tim Hansen.
"Our effort and intensity were there," he added. "We rebounded very poorly. We improved tonight, but we need to focus better and start putting more of the skills we work on every day in practice into the games."
The FAlcons trailed 29-25 at the half, but were outscored 19-9 in the third quarter as Bluhm scored seven points -- including five at the free throw line -- and Stephanie Hurley hit a pair of her four 3-pointers.
The Falcons tried to get back in it in the fourth as Colleen Wren hit two 3-pointers of her own, but Glenn hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch, including six straight from Kylene Frank, to keep the Falcons at bay.
Bluhm led Glenn (7-3, 3-2 NEMC) with 25 points, with Hurley adding 15. The Falcons (3-6, 2-3) were paced by Ashley Thompson with 10, Wren with nine and Tiffani Rouse with eight.
