TAWAS AREA - Feb. 16, 2008 - Tawas Area's boys basketball team won its second game in 24 hours Saturday, pulling away from Oscoda in the second half for a 64-44 victory.
The Owls, also playing their second game in two days, kept it close through most of the first half as the Braves struggled to contain Adam Dettmer.
"Adam is a great player," said Tawas coach Todd Kaems. "He hit some tough shots in the first quarter, and there wasn't much we could do about it."
Leading 31-20 at the half, the Braves opened up a 52-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
"Our goal is to hold teams to 10 points (or less) in a quarter," Kaems said. "For five of the past eight quarters we have done that. I'm really pleased with how well we've done on the defensive boards the past two nights."
Dettmer led all scorers with 25 points, while Josh Hodges added nine for the Owls (9-9, 3-7 NEMC). Phil Barnes drilled five 3-pointers and paced Tawas (11-5, 7-4) with 19 points, with Jesse Siwek adding 11. |
