WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Jan. 25, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott concentrated on slowing down Oscoda's Adam Dettmer, but the Owls got a balanced effort to down the Cards in an NEMC boys basketball contest on Friday.
"I was pleased with our guards tonight," said Oscoda coach Scott Lueck. "Josh Hodges and Mike Leveille both played better than they have been and Dylan Kachur gave us great minutes off the bench.
"Whittemore was active with their zone defense and really hounded Adam, but we got balanced scoring and much better ball control."
The Owls had assists and 15 of their 16 baskets.
With all the attention paid to Dettmer, the Owls got four 3-pointers in the first half, including three from Jason Jimenez. Oscoda led W-P 27-23 at the half and gradually pulled away after halftime.
Dettmer finished with a game-high 15 points, with Jimenez adding 11, Mike Lamrock 10 and Leveille eight.
The Cardinals were led by Tristan Kohlhoff's 14 points.
"He has greatly improved," Lueck said. "(W-P coach) Bob (Leslie) is doing a good job with his kids and they are improving."
The Owls (7-5, 2-5 NEMC) won their second straight and play at Hale on Tuesday. W-P (3-9, 0-7) is at Standish-Sterling on Wednesday, Jan. 30. |
