GLADWIN - Dec. 28, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights opened the Gladwin Christmas Invitational boys basketball tournament Friday with an impressive 76-61 victory over Allen Park Cabrini.
"We were clicking on all cylinders," said Falcon coach Jon VanOosten. "They were athletic and had a couple kids that shot the ball pretty well, but we played well, especially in the middle of the game."
Trailing 18-17 after one quarter, the Falcons ran off a 17-6 run in the second period to lead 34-24 at the half and made it a 12-point game after three quarters.
Pete VanOosten (24 points) and Rick Dodridge (14) were an effective inside-outside combo for the Falcons, who also helped themselves by shooting 20-of-24 at the free throw line. Cabrini was just 12-of-28 for the game.
Alex Jennings and Michael Noffsinger added nine points apiece as the Falcons improved to 5-0 heading into Saturday's final against Gladwin, which came from behind to edge Grayling 53-50 in the other semifinal.
