OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Feb. 15, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights put all 13 players in the scorebook and Pete VanOosten broke the Falcons' career scoring mark Friday as Ogemaw ripped Whittemore-Prescott 84-46.
VanOosten scored 15 points in about 12 minutes of playing time as the Falcons opened up a 48-20 halftime lead. He topped the scoring mark of 1,180 points held by Mike Zimmerman, jr. since 1989.
"His dad was my coach in high school; it's kind of fun how these things get connected," said Ogemaw coach (and Pete's dad) Jon VanOosten.
The milestone also came during a week in which Pete signed to play at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
In Friday's game, the big lead allowed for plenty of playing time for most everyone. In addition to nearly a half-dozen Ogemaw dunks, the Falcons also relished the career-high 10 points scored by exchange student Masato Tokuda, who drilled a pair of 3-pointers.
"He's got some skills," Jon VanOosten said.
Cody O'Neil added 11 points, Rick Dodridge had nine and Kyle Dantzer scored eight for the Falcons (15-4, 9-2 NEMC) who can clinch at least a share of their second straight NEMC title on Thursday with a win at Oscoda.
Mark Jakubik scored 10 points for the Cardinals (4-13, 0-10), with Tristan Kohlhoff adding nine. |
