WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Jan. 16, 2008 - Pete VanOosten scored 16 points in the first quarter as Ogemaw Heights blasted out to a 28-10 lead and the Falcons went on to defeat Whittemore-Prescott 65-38 in a Wednesday night NEMC boys basketball game.
The Falcons led 40-23 at the half as nine players scored in the opening two quarters despite VanOosten's outburst. By the end of the third quarter, in which Ogemaw went on a 24-0 run, the Falcons had 11 of their 12 players in the scorebook and led 64-23.
W-P closed the game on a 15-1 run as Austin Swanson and Tristan Kohlhoff each scored six points in the quarter.
VanOosten finished with 22 points, with Alex Rose adding nine as the Falcons improved to 9-1 (5-0) and stayed a game in front of Standish-Sterling in the NEMC lead.
Swanson finished with 17 to lead W-P (2-8, 0-5).
