OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Jan. 11, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights maintained its slim lead atop the North East Michigan Conference on Friday by handing John Glenn a 56-31 boys basketball defeat.
With Tawas and Pinny winning and Standish-Sterling playing a non-league contest, the Falcons needed a win to stay all alone atop the league and left little doubt about the outcome by the time halftime arrived.
Pete VanOosten scored seven of his 10 points in the first quarter as Ogemaw took 16-11 lead, but it was three non-starters -- Tim LeForce, Alex Jennings and Alex Rose -- that provided most of the scoring as Ogemaw pulled away in the second quarter to a 27-14 lead.
Ten Falcons reached the scoring column, led by VanOosten's 10. Rose added eight while Jennings, Kyle Dantzer and Rick Dodridge each had six.
Chris Schumann led John Glenn (3-6, 1-3 NEMC) with eight points.
The Falcons (8-1, 4-0) travel to Whittemore-Prescott on Wednesday and host Oscoda on Friday.
