BEAVERTON - May 10, 2008 - Standish-Sterling's girls track and field team matched their male counterparts Saturday by taking second place at the Beaverton Invitational.
Gladwin won the meet with 103.5 points to the Panthers' 91. Sanford-Meridian (86) finished third, followed by Bullock Creek (77), Harrison (62), Ithaca (52), Beaverton 31.5) and Houghton Lake (24).
Winning events for SSC were Ashlyn Gulvas in the discus (123-2) and shot put (39-11); Chelsea Szostak, Shaina Szostak, Jessica Cousins and Katie Ouillette in the 4x200 relay (1:52.61); Ouillette in the 400 (1:02.52); and Szostak, Szostak, Ouillette and Gulvas in the 4x400 (4:16.69).
Also placing for the Panthers were Sarah Cousins in the discus (6th, 79-4); Allison Collier in the pole vault (3rd, 8-0); Ashley Pickvet, Christina Proulx, Alyssa Pruder and Ashley White in the 4x800 (3rd, 10:57.90); Chelsea Szostak in the 100 hurdles (5th, 17.64) and 300 hurdles (2nd, 49.01); Shaina Szostak in the 100 (5th, 14.27); Pickvet in the 1600 (6th, 6:03.0) and 800 (5th, 2:39.82); Shaina Szostak, Abbye Gulvas, Jessica Cousins and Sarah Cousins in the 4x100 relay (4th, 56.12); and Ouillette (3rd, 28.72), Cousins (4th, 28.95) and Abbye Gulvas (6th, 31.46) in the 200.
