AuGRES-SIMS - May 6, 2008 - Alcona's Tigers made the most of their opportunity Tuesday, winning the AuGres-Sims Girls Track Invitational by more than 26 points over a Fairview squad depleted by a choir trip to Canada.

Alcona finished with 128.5 points to Fairview's 102. Oscoda (80.5) finished third, followed by Hale (67.5), AuGres-Sims (41), Posen (40), Whittemore-Prescott (24), Mio AuSable (23.5), Atlanta (10), Hillman (6) and Tawas (4), which brought only a partial squad due to a league meet the next day.

Alcona got a meet MVP performance out of Nikole Hampton, who took first place in the long jump (15-10); 100-meter dash (13.35); 400 (1:04.31); and with , Shannon McNichols, Jackie Mullen and Elena Dunkel in the 4x400 relay (4:29.21). The Tigers also got first-place finishes from Haley DeJarlais in the discus (93-9.5); Elena Dunkel in the 100 hurdles (13.35); Jackie Mullen in the 800 (2:34.22); and Shannon McNichols in the 1600 (5:50.57).

Oscoda's Ashley Schonfeld had the day's only broke record, winning the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.68. The Owls also got event wins from Schonfeld in the 200 (28.53); Jeri Carl in the shot put (33-3); and Schonfeld, Blake Sponaugle, Becca Businski and Mari Businski in the 4x100 relay (56.68).

Fairview's winners were Indigo Szubelak in the high jump (4-8); Kendra Handrich in the pole vault (7-6); Handrich, Brittany Putinsky, Katy Devereaux and Alora Haskin in the 4x200 relay (2:00.06); and Camille Szubelak in the 3200 (13:53.87).

Other top finishers for the Eagles were Putinsky (2nd, 14-3) and Handrich (4th, 13-5) in the long jump; Indigo Szubelak, Devereaux, Camille Szubelak and Brittney Evans in the 4x800 (2nd, 10:56.49); Indigo Szubelak in the 100 hurdles (19.21); Putinsky in the 100 (3rd, 13.67); Camille Szubelak in the 1600 (2nd, 5:51.26); and Alora Haskin in the 400 (4th, 1:07.44) and 200 (4th, 29.22).

Hale's 4x800 relay team of Liz Lerczak, Kelsey Scott, Terra Kelso and Ashley Malin won with a time of 10:48.64. Other top finishers for the Eagles were Kathryn Parent in the discus (4th, 77-4.5) and shot put (3rd, 27-2); Lerczak in the high jump (3rd, 4-3); Tarra Caverly in the 100 hurdles (2nd, 18.28) and 2nd, 50.97); Ashley Malin in the 1600 (3rd, 6:11.16); Kelso in the 300 hurdles (4th, 53.87); and Lerczak, Kelso, Caverly and Malin in the 4x400 (2nd, 4:39.01).

AuGres-Sims' top finishers were Emily Lutz in the discus (2nd, 91-4.5) and shot put (2nd, 31-3); Kelsey Chesney in the 100 (2nd, 13.52); Ashley Pine, Samara Nenadov, Shelby Schwiderson and Chesney in the 4x200 (4th, 2:01.61); and Kelsey Heinrich in the 3200 (3rd, 14:30.82).

Top finishers for Mio were Katelyn Blair in the pole vault (3rd, 6-6); Julia Schneider in the long jump (3rd, 13-7) and 800 (4th, 2:48.66); and Blair, Schneider, Desiree Knepp and Arielle Smith in the 4x100 relay (4th, 58.62).

For Whittemore-Prescott, top finishers were Janette Gonzalez, Heather Ostrander, Chelsea MacDonald and Jessica Hamacher in the 4x800 (4th, 11:31.14); Shanaisse King in the 100 (4th, 13.79); Snowy DeCaen in the 200 (3rd, 28.94); and DeCaen, Epifania Gonzalez, Hamacher and Staci Ostrander in the 4x400 (4th, 4:54.14).
