FAIRVIEW - Apr. 29, 2008 - Fairview's girls track and field team easily defeated all of its North Star League foes at Tuesday's invitational, as well as five non-league teams in attendance as the Eagles, winning five events and showing off plenty of depth in most events in taking a 30-point victory.

Fairview ran up 138.5 points to closest challenger Johannesburg-Lewiston's 109 and Lincoln Alcona's 106. NSL challenger Hale (62) finished fourth, followed by Oscoda (56), AuGres-Sims (50), Rogers City (36.5), Central Lake (36), Mio (31), Posen (23), Atlanta (7) and Hillman (5).

Camille Szubelak piled up the points for the Eagles while running the tough trio of individual events, winning the 800 (2:38.85) and 3200 (14:06.68) and finishing third in the 1600 (5:50.87). Fairview also had event wins from Morgan Wiedbrauk in the discus (92-6); Kendra Handrich in the pole vault (7-3); and Tia Rogers in the 200 (28.62). Rogers also took second in the long jump (14-9.5) and third in the 100 (13.69) while Wiedbrauk took fifth in the discus and Handrich fourth in the long jump. Indigo Szubelak also took second in the high jump (4-10). The Eagles also got a third-place finish from its 4x800 relay team of Indigo Szubelak, Katy Devereaux, Alora Haskin and Britney Evans (11:33.22); while the 4x200 (2:00.62), 4x100 (58.60) and 4x400 (4:39.96) relays all also finished third.

Hale's Ashley Malin won the 400 (1:04.36) as well as taking fourth in the 1600 (6:07.79) and anchoring the second-place 4x400 relay with Kelsey Scott, Terra Kelso and Tarra Caverly (4:34.31). Other top Hale finishers were Caverly in the 100 hurdles (3rd, 17.97) and 300 hurdles (3rd, 52.69).

Oscoda got a win from Ashley Schonfeld in the 300 hurdles (49.69). Schonfeld also took third in the high jump (4-8); anchored the 4x200 relay with Mari Businski, Becca Businski, Blake Sponaugle (4th, 2:01.60); and ran the 4x100 relay (2nd, 58.60) with the same three teammates.

Other top finishers for the Owls were Jeri Carl in the shot put (2nd, 33-3) and discus (4th, 81-1); Mari Businski in the 100 hurdles (4th, 18.25); and Mari Businski, Brittany Lynch, Chelsea LaLonde and Becca Businski in the 4x400 relay (4th, 4:43.38).

AuGres-Sims' top finishers were Emily Lutz in the discus (2nd, 85-3) and shot put (3rd, 29-8.5);  Kelsey Chesney in the long jump (3rd, 14-8.25); Kadie Kachmaryk in the pole vault (2nd, 6-6); and Kelsey Heinrich in the 3200 (3rd, 14:22.35).
