WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Apr. 30, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott's softball team earned a split with John Glenn on Wednesday, tightening the NEMC race for the stretch run.

Glenn came back from a 3-1 deficit to win the opener 7-3 as Audrey Oleniacz pitched a four-hiter and struck out 10 W-P batters.

W-P took a 3-1 lead in the third inning on Ashleigh Schulte's two-run double and an error on Chelsea Jasman's at bat that scored Sharesse King.

Glenn scored one in the fourth inning and took the lead for good with three unearned runs in the fifth as W-P committed a pair of errors in the inning.

King, Jordan Maxwell and Cortney Bork also had hits for the Cards. Julie Janish took the loss, allowing nine hits and striking out four.

The Cards needed eight innings to win the nightcap, getting a break on some Bobcat miscues that allowed Janish to score the winning run with two outs. Janish reached base on an error, took second on a passed ball and scored on another error.

Bork and King had RBI singles in the second inning to give W-P a 3-1 lead, and Janish scored on another Glenn error in the fourth to snap a 3-3 tie.

Angie Burr singled and eventually scored on a Cardinal error in the fifth to force extra innings.

Janish got plenty of help on defense as she earned the win without striking out a batter, allowing nine hits and five walks.

John Glenn (8-4, 4-2 NEMC) dropped into a first place tie with Tawas for the top spot in the league, while the Cards are 10-7 (3-5).
