OSCODA - Apr. 14, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott's Cortney Bork drove in nine runs with two doubles and two triples in two games as the Cardinals earned their first North East Michigan Conference victories of the season at Oscoda on Monday, 15-3 and 13-3.
"Big day for Cortney Bork," said W-P coach Sam Harrison. "It isn't often someone gets nine RBIs in one (doubleheader) but every time she came up to bat we had people on base. She came through, especially in the second game."
The Cards trailed 3-0 after three innings of the nightcap, but Bork's three-run double put the Cards ahead for good.
"Julie (Janish) closed the door after that," Harrison said.
Janish was the winning pitcher in both games. She allowed three hits and one earned run in the second game, walking one and striking out seven. In the first game, Janish allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Janish had two triples and two RBIs in the first game, with Kelsey Sievers adding three hits and two RBIs, Ashleigh Schulte three hits and Ashley Tanner two hits, including a triple.
"It was fun to see us score some runs," Harrison said.
Janish added two hits and two RBIs in the second game and Schulte had a double.
The Cards (2-2, 2-2 NEMC) are at Arenac Eastern on Thursday, while Oscoda (4-2, 0-2) hosts Fairview on Tuesday.
