OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Apr. 14, 2008 - Barbara Filipeck shut down Ogemaw Heights' batting order in the first game of Monday's doubleheader and Falcons' Kate Dombrowski returned the favor in the second game as Standish-Sterling and Ogemaw played to a two-game doubleheader split.
Filipeck allowed four hits and struck out 15 batters as SSC blanked Ogemaw 9-0 in the opener.
Ogemaw's Colleen Wren nearly matched Filipeck through the first five innings as SSC had just a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers took control of the game in the sixth inning, scoring six runs on four hits while the Falcon defense committed three errors to start off what turned into a disastrous frame for the Falcons.
Alyssa Bonnau's RBI triple really got things rolling for the Panthers; that was followed by a Kayla Hilyard single, an RBI double by Terra Hartley and a run-scoring single by Filipeck.
The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the seventh.
Hilyard, Hartley, Filipeck and Bonnau each had two hits to lead SSC in the opener, while Wren, Jenna Zettel, Angela Carollo and Kathy Erickson had the Falcons' hits.
In the second game, Zettel's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth snapped a 2-2 tie and gave the Falcons a split of the doubleheader.
The Panthers had tied the score in the top of the fifth on Filipeck's two-run single, but Ogemaw got a one-out double by Wren and an Ashley Thompson single to set the table for Zettel.
Dombrowski didn't allow SSC to get a runner on base in the final two innings.
Wren had three hits, Zettel had two hits and three RBIs and Thompson had two hits for the Falcons.
