OSCODA - Apr. 17, 2008 - Oscoda's softball team had its bats in perfect working order Thursday as the Owls defeated AuGres-Sims 11-3 and 14-4 in a non-conference doubleheader.
The Owls had five extra-base hits in the first game in which they twice came from behind. AGS took a 2-0 lead after one inning and 3-2 after two frames, but Oscoda scored four in the third and five in the fourth to take the win.
Heather Patterson had a pair of doubles and four RBIs, Dana Kitchen had two hits, Riley Shelton had a triple and Nikki Shugart had a triple and three RBIs to lead the Oscoda offense. Shugart earned the win by allowing five hits and one walk, striking out four.
Jessica Wright had a double and Lacy Southworth and Angelina Bellissimo each had singles for AGS. Ashleigh Abney took the loss but pitched a complete game.
In the second game, the Owls scored nine runs in the first inning, and though AGS responded with four in the second, Oscoda pulled away to the mercy win.
Shugart had a home run and three RBIs, Kitchen and Patterson each had three hits and Heather Spenceley scored four runs to lead the Owls (6-2). Shelton pitched a four-inning four-hitter, walked one and struck out three.
Tasha Trombley had a double and Kelsey Heinrich a single while Amy Turner and Emily Lutz shared the pitching duties for the Wolverines (1-5).
