TAWAS AREA - May 17, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights won two of three games at Saturday's Tawas Area Invitational, topping Gaylord 3-1 and Oscoda 10-1 while losing to Birch Run 5-3.
The Falcons opened the tournament with their win over Gaylord as Colleen Wren scattered six hits, walked one and struck out eight to earn the win.
Ashley Thompson had three hits and stole three bases; Lauren Gillette had two hits including a triple; Jacie Lucas tripled; and Jordan Foster had a double for the Falcons.
In the loss to Birch Run, Wren and Lucas each had hits, including a double apiece, but the Falcons couldn't get all the way back after falling behind 5-0.
A two-run error in the sixth got the Falcons back within range, and Thompson sacrificed home Kathy Erickson in the seventh to make it 5-3 with runners on second and third, but the game ended with the tying runs stranded on base.
Erickson took the loss for the Falcons, allowing 13 runs and two walks while striking out seven. Two of the five runs she allowed were earned.
Kate Dombrowski threw a three-hitter and struck out five in Ogemaw's final game of the day. The Falcons got two doubles and three RBIs from Jenna Zettel, while Wren, Thompson, Angela Carollo and Foster had two hits apiece.
The Falcons (18-12) travel to Alpena on Thursday.
