SAGINAW VALLEY LUTHERAN - May 3, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights' softball team split its two games at the Valley Lutheran tournament on Saturday, trouncing Chesaning 10-0 but falling to Coleman, eighth-ranked in Division 4, 6-0.
Kate Dombrowski threw a two-hit shutout at Cheasaning, walking two and striking out nine in the six-inning mercy contest.
The Falcons put the game away with a five-run second inning in which they drew four walks, with Colleen Wren's RBI single and Jacie Lucas's two-run double finishing off the inning.
Megan Hicks' run-scoring double highlighted a three-run sixth that put the Falcons up 10 runs and ended the game.
Wren and Kathy Erickson each had two hits in the game.
Beating Coleman proved to be another matter entirely as the Falcons managed just one hit.
Ashley Thompson practically lived on base, picking up that lone single and walking two times, but the rest of the Falcons' offense consisted of four walks.
Wren started and took the loss, allowing two earned runs on one hit and four walks in three innings, while Kathy Erickson pitched the final four innings.
Ogemaw (12-7) returns to NEMC action on Monday at Tawas, which is ranked seventh in Division 3.
