OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Apr. 24, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights survived a stretch of four doubleheaders in four days by sweeping Oscoda 5-4 and 5-0 on Thursday. It was the Falcons' sixth straight victory after starting the week on the wrong foot with a pair of losses at Pinconning.
In the opener, the Owls scored three runs in the top of the second inning to take a 3-2 lead with the help of a series of Ogemaw errors, but the Falcons came back to take the lead on a two-run Ashley Thompson single in the bottom of the second.
The Owls' Abby Samotis came in to score the tying run in the fourth inning on a Falcon error, but Colleen Wren's RBI single drove in Kim Wickwire in the bottom of the fourth with what proved to be the game-winner.
"Four doubleheaders in four days," said Ogemaw coach Chuck Wren. "The kids hung tough through the fatigue."
Wren picked up the first-game win by pitching a six-hitter and striking out five. Thompson had three hits and three RBIs while Wren and Angela Carollo each had two.
Nikki Shugart took the loss for Oscoda, allowing five runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out two. Abby Wilkerson led the Owls with three hits.
Kate Dombrowski threw a five-hit shutout in the second game, walking one and striking out six.
The Falcons scored in each of the first three innings. Thompson had two hits and two RBIs, while Jacie Lucas and Jenna Zettel each had two hits.
Shugart had two hits for Oscoda (10-4, 0-4 NEMC). Samotis took the loss, allowing one earned run on eight hits, walking two and striking out four.
