SANFORD-MERIDIAN - Apr. 22, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights' softball team didn't have much time to dwell on Monday's tough losses at Pinconning. The Falcons were back on the road Tuesday and earned a sweep at Sanford-Meridian, 7-3 and 6-5 in eight innings.
The Falcons almost from the start in the opener as Kathy Erickson pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, striking out seven and walking just one.
Ashley Thompson led the hitting attack with four hits, including a pair of triples, and she and Colleen Wren drove in two runs apiece.
In the second game, the Falcons had to come from behind in the late innings after taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Meridian quickly scored four runs in the bottom of the first, but Lauren Gillette settled down limit the Mustangs to one run on five hits over the next six innings.
The Falcons trailed 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning and were down to their final out when Jenna Zettel tripled home Tara Neubecker with the tying run.
Thompson's RBI double with two out in the eighth inning drove home Jordan Foster gave the Falcons the lead, and Kate Dombrowski pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth to nail down the save.
Thompson finished with three hits, scored twice and had three stolen bases; Zettel had three hits, including a double and triple; and Jacie Lucas had a double.
