HALE - May 8, 2008 - Hale's softball team was off an running Thursday, scoring 13 runs in the first inning of the Eagles' opening game with Fairview and going to to a 14-4, 15-4 sweep.
Freshman Stacey Eno earned the win in the opener, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks. Eno also led the Hale offense with two hits while Amanda Hendrix had a double and Kassie Johnson a triple. Hendrix, Brooke Bastian and Hendrix each had two RBIs.
"I got a chance to play some reserves that don't get much playing time," said Hale coach Don Springsteen. "I was happy to see them come through for us. It was also nice to get my freshman pitcher some innings as she doesn't get in often. She was able to gain some confidence for the next time she goes out there."
In the second game, Lauryn Springsteen allowed one hit -- a bases-loaded double to Fairview's Melissa Niles -- and struck out eight as Hale scored in all but one inning of the five-inning contest.
"Lauryn dominated the second game," Don Springsteen said. "She is piling up strikeouts at a record pace once. Once we get some warm weather the girls will be able to grip the ball better and should have a lot more control."
Hendrix had two hits and three RBIs, and Johnson had two hits and five RBIs, including a bases-loaded double in the fifth to end the game due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Hale improved to 6-12 (5-7 NSL) while Fairview fell to 1-11 in league play.
