HALE - May 1, 2008 - Hale was playing without its injured coach Thursday in its home doubleheader with AuGres-Sims, but used a five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener to earn a split with the Wolverines.
AGS won the second game 10-1.
Hale coach Don Springsteen was downstate having his jaw repaired after taking a line drive during practice two days earlier. In his stead, assistant coach Tim Maher, girls basketball coach Joe Kimmerer and Gary Weaver pinch-hit for the injured coach.
In the first game, the Wolverines' Ashleigh Abney kept Hale under control for the first five innings.
But in the sixth and final inning, Stacey Eno, Rachel Maher and Lyndsay Weaver all walked to load the bases.
Laura Sidebottom, Lauryn Springsteen and Amanda Hendrix all followed with run-scoring hits to give Hale the one-run victory.
Lauryn Springsteen earned the win, allowing five hits and five walks while striking out seven.
Lacy Southworth had two hits for the Wolverines.
In the second game, AuGres-Sims' (3-11, 3-3) Emily Lutz kept Hale's bats at bay, tossing a five-hitter while walking six and striking out three.
Lutz and Kelsey Heinrich each had two hits, while Lutz had two RBIs and Tasha Trombley drove in three runs.
Laura Sidebottom took the loss for the Eagles.
Maher, Sidebottom, Springsteen,
Johnson, and Hendrix all had singles for Hale (4-10, 3-7).
