WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - May 10, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott's baseball team dropped a pair of one-run heartbreakers as they lost both games in their home tournament on Saturday.
W-P opened with a 10-9 loss to Oscoda after coming back from a 9-0 deficit, then fell 8-7 to Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary 8-7 in eight innings.
In the first game, the Cards came back with five runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth to tie the score after falling behind big, but saw the Owls win it in the sixth.
Mike Lamrock had a big game for the Owls, clubbing a three-run home run in the first inning, driving in the winning run in the sixth and earning the win with 2/3 of an inning of relief. Jason Jimenez picked up the save.
Kyle Hucul had two hits and Mark Jakubik had a double for W-P.
The Cards advanced to the consolation game, where they led 2-0 early. Seminary came back to take a 7-2 lead, but W-P tied it with a five-run sevenths thanks to RBI singles by Jakubik, Kyle Saunders and Sean Leathorn and a run-scoring double by xxxx Engster.
MLS pushed across a run in the eighth, and the Cards had two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth before going down.
Leathorn took the loss in relief of Tristan Kohlhoff, allowing one run on one hit. Kohlhoff started and allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks, striking out two.
