STANDISH-STERLING - Apr. 28, 2008 - Standish-Sterling got a pair of strong pitching performances from Tony Thayer and Dewey Milan on Monday as the Panthers swept Oscoda 7-2 and 13-1.
Thayer, who earlier in the month threw a no-hitter against Gladwin, struck out 15 Owls while allowing four hits and walking three.
The Panthers took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI groundout by Ryan Donahue, a sacrifice fly from Jesse Potts and Kenny Turner's RBI single.
Brad Bialobrzeski and Jason Kandal had led off the inning with singles, and a walk to Kevin Goretcki loaded the bases.
SSC added three more in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Bialobrzeski, Kandal and Turner each had two hits for the Panthers, and Kandal had three RBIs.
Nick Withrow took the loss for the Owls, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and four walks.
Milan tossed a one-hitter in the second game, striking out nine batters in the five-inning contest.
SSC scored in every inning, including seven runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Donahue had two hits, while Bialobrzeski and Brad Sobieray each had three RBIs.
Jason Jimenez had the Owls' lone hit. Parker Thompson was the first of three Oscoda pitchers and took the loss.
SSC improved to 11-4 (5-3 NEMC) while the Owls dropped to 10-8 (2-4).
