OSCODA - Apr. 14, 2008 - Oscoda opened North East Michigan Conference play Monday with a 5-4 and 6-4 sweep of Whittemore-Prescott. The second game was called after five innings due to darkness.
The Owls won the opener in dramatic fashion, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to overcome a 4-3 W-P lead.
Tyler Little pitched five innings of relief for the win, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out six. Mike Lamrock and Parker Thompson each had two hits for the Owls.
Kevin DuPuis pitched a complete game in the loss for W-P. He allowed four earned runs on six hits and five walks while striking out seven. DuPuis, Dylan DeBoever and Greg Smith each had this for the Cards.
A five-run second inning was the key for Oscoda in the second game, which held off the Cards in the fifth and final inning for the win. Alex Schram and Thomas York had key hits for the Owls as they took a 5-0 lead.
The Cards, trailing 6-1 after four innings, came back with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Nick Withrow went all the way for the Owls (4-2, 2-0 NEMC) in collecting the win, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four.
Matt Grindstaff went all the way in the loss for W-P (0-4, 0-4), which got two hits from DuPuis and one each from DeBoever and Sean Leathorn.
