OGEMAW HEIGHTS - May 24, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights finally got a Saturday performance to be happy with as the Falcons won their home Memorial Day Invitational, shutting out Mt. Morris 4-0 and Bay City Central 10-0.
Rick Dodridge mowed down the Mt. Morris hitters in dominant fashion, allowing five hits and striking out 16 while not walking a batter.
"Rick was on," said Ogemaw coach Jeremiah Peace. "He had great command. His three-run home run in the first got us going."
The Falcons never were seriously threatened after that.
Blaine Powley, who led the Falcons with two hits, drove home Jarritt Orlando with an RBI single in the third inning.
In the second game, Anthony Betancourt threw the first four innings and Michael Noffsinger mopped up in a combined four-hit shutout.
Betancourt walked one and struck out four.
"It was the best game Anthony has thrown all year," Peace said. "He was very good. We played the best defense we have all year, too."
Tyson Dantzer, had two hits and three RBIs, while Chris Bones had two hits and Kelvin Page had a double and three RBIs.
"We were patient and swung the bats well," Peace said. "It was a great way for our (top two pitchers) to get ready for districts."
The Falcons (25-10) will face Standish-Sterling in their district opener on Saturday at home.
