AuGRES-SIMS - Apr. 10, 2008 - AuGres-Sims held on for a 10-9 victory in its opening baseball contest on Thursday, while Oscoda came back to earn a 14-2 triumph in the second game as the two squads split a doubleheader in very cold conditions on Thursday.
The Wolveinres trailed 7-4 in the first game of the opener, but scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 10-7 lead and held off a sixth-inning Oscoda rally.
Kyle Gingerich earned the complete-game win for the Wolverines, allowing 14 hits and two walks while striking out five.
Three Oscoda pitchers gave up 10 runs, five of which were unearned. Parker Thompson took the loss. Mike Lamrock had four hits, including a triple, with Mike Wimmer had three hits and Thomas York had two doubles.
Zach Dieleman and Bradon Kelly had two hits apiece for AGS.
A 10-run third inning powered the Owls (2-2) to their big win in the second game. York, Jason Jimenez, Brad Niemann and Brett Leech each had two hits for the Owls, while Tyler Little didn't allow an earned run to pick up the win.
Art Griffore, Chad Taylor and Stolt each had hits for the Wolverines (1-1). Brandon Kelly pitched for AGS.
