MACKINAC ISLAND - Sep. 6, 2008 - A fun trip for the Whittemore-Prescott volleyball and soccer teams to Mackinac Island had its frustrations on the court for the volleyball squad as the Cards fell to the Lakers in five games, 16-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-10, 10-15.

Not only was the contest part of a soccer - volleyball doubleheader between the two squads, but the officials worked both games. According to W-P coach Helen Loomis, they may not have quite been up to the task on the volleyball side of things.

"It was pretty frustrating," she said. "The officials did not have any knowledge of illegal hits, net violations or four-contacts and did not call anything.

"The Mackinac Island team did have some skilled players but did get away with numerous violations and illegal hits."

In a five-set match, that may well have been the difference.

"I believe the outcome of the game would have been different if the officiating would have been at least at a medium level," Loomis said.

The Cards (1-4) host Alcona on Monday, then return to NEMC play on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a home match against John Glenn.

W-P Stats: Larissa McGeathy 18 points, 3 aces, 3 block kills, 6 spike kills; Cortney Bork 17 points, 4 aces, 21 digs; Kayla Camp 10 assists, 16 digs; Chelsea Jasman 8 spike kills, 1 block kill; Leighanna Loomis 22 digs; Chloe Moraitis 15 digs, 4 spike kills; Alyssa Gielda 4 spike kills.
