OSCODA - Sep. 8, 2008 - Standish-Sterling's volleyball team continued to flex its muscle in the early season as the Panthers defeated Oscoda 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 in a non-conference match.

Oscoda coach Laura Franklin was impressed with SSC's play, but was also looking for a different mindset from her own squad.

"Standish is a tough team; I knew coming into the game they were going to be strong," he said. "We had holes and they put the ball there. They didn't make many mistakes tonight ...

"We have to want to win. We aren't going to think it's OK to lose. We have to get that out of our heads."

Oscoda dropped to 1-3 and hosts Houghton Lake on Friday, Sept. 12. SSC was set to host Pinconning on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
