SHEPHERD - Oct. 4, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights started the day with a loss at Saturday's Shepherd Volleyball Invitational, but that was the last time the Falcons tasted defeat.

After dropping a 22-24, 14-21 decision to Clare in the first match of the morning, the Falcons came back to win four straight matches, including a 19-21, 21-17, 15-11 victory over Clare in the championship match to avenge that one loss.

"We started the day slow with a lot of receiving errors," said Ogemaw coach Diane Gillette. "We played fantastic the rest of the day.The girls never gave up and had great communication."

The Falcons picked up pool play wins of 21-12 and 21-9 over Bath and 21-17, 16-21, 15-13 over Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, then eliminated Leroy Pine River 21-7, 21-19 in the single-elimination bracket to advance to the finals.

"The win was a total team effort with girls coming off the bench, stepping up and taking care of business," Gillette said.

The Falcons (22-5-4) return to NEMC play on Wednesday when they host Pinconning.
