ATLANTA - Sep. 16, 2008 - Hale overcame illness, injury and a tough road trip on Tuesday to claim a four-game North Star League volleyball win at Atlanta, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20.
Already playing without ill setter Laura Sidebottom, the Eagles lost Belle Moody to an ankle injury during the game, forcing Hale coach Heather Chrivia to improvise even further with her lineup.
"Liz Lerczak and Stacey Eno stepped up to the plate with great setting for us to help guide us to the win," Chrivia said. "Toward the end of game 4, Belle twisted her ankle and freshman Shelby Rhein had to play front row hitting rotation, a position she has never played before. (She) came through with a few great hits (and) also served the last three game winning points for us.
"It was great to see our freshman girls shine and come through under pressure."
The Eagles were also helped by strong serving from Lerczak, Eno, Tarra Caverly and Kelsey Reilly, who combined for a perfect 60/60 from the service line with 19 aces, including 13 by Lerczak. Caverly also led the team with 10 kills and Lerczak had 15 digs.
"Atlanta was a tough team," Chrivia said. "They had some really great servers and some hard hitters.
"I was so proud... It was a hard fought battle and it was nice to see the girls come together to pull through for the big win."
