OSCODA - Nov. 3, 2008 - Hale opened the 2008 district tournament Monday by earning its 20th victory of the season, sweeping Rogers City 25-23, 25-8, 27-25.

The win moves the Eagles into a district semifinal match with Lincoln Alcona on Wednesday.

"The girls played really hard for this win," said Hale coach Heather Chrivia.

Hale rallied from a 16-9 deficit in the third and final with an 18-9 run to finish off the sweep.

"Rogers City really started playing hard to try to get it to a fourth game," Chrivia said. "My girls really dug deep and played with all their heart to pull out the win."

Liz Lerczak had a dominating night in the middle with 10 kills, as well as five aces and three blocks, while Stacey Eno had 10 digs and three aces and freshman Halley Wolkens had a perfect night serving for four straight games.

"(Halley) is always reliable and a great asset," Chrivia said. "The girl has really stepped up as a freshman."

The Eagles (20-7-3) and Alcona start play at 5 p.m. Wednesday, followed by Oscoda and Whittemore-Prescott.
