OSCODA - Nov. 5, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott needed a big lift when Oscoda had all the momentum.

Larrissa McGeathy gave it to them.

McGeathy had four kills and also scored off a tip to lead the Cardinals to fifth-game win that clinched W-P's five-game district semifinal win over the host Oscoda Owls on Wednesday.

The Cardinals' 25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 19-25, 15-9 victory sets up Friday's district championship match with Hale.

"The girls played well tonight, with the exception of Game 4," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "Larrissa did a wonderful job at the net, and all team members played with enthusiasm and excitement.

"We're looking forward to the finals on Friday."

With each team winning one of the first two tightly-contested games, W-P gained the advantage with a decisive win in game 3.

The Owls bounced back with an equally decisive win in Game 4 as Heather Patterson and Sarah Inman had several big hits from the left side and Lelia Cotton frustrated the W-P attack in the middle.

But in Game 5, McGeathy took control of the game beginning when W-P held a slim 7-5 lead, winning a tip at the net, running off three straight kills and assisting on Chloe Moratis' kill that made it 14-7.

Patterson and Rebecka Brewer each scored to pull the Owls to within 14-9, but an Oscoda hit into the net ended it.

McGeathy finished with 14 spike kills and six block kills, Moraitis and Cortney Bork each had 19 digs and Kayla Camp had 15 assists as W-P improved to 14-20-1.

The Owls finished their campaign with a 10-12-1 mark.

W-P takes on Hale in Friday's 6 p.m. district title game. The winner moves on to the McBain regional on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

W-P Stats: Kayla Camp 18 points, 2 aces, 15 assists; Cortney Bork 12 points, 2 aces, 19 digs, 6 spike kills; Chelsea Jasman 9 points, 3 aces, 7 spike kills; Leighanna Loomis 5 points, 1 ace, 12 digs, 6 spike kills; Chloe Moraitis 19 digs; Larrissa McGeathy 14 spike kills, 6 block kills.
