OSCODA - Aug. 25, 2008 - Oscoda's boys soccer team built an early lead, saw Ogemaw Heights come back to tie the score, then pulled away to a 5-3 victory with two goals in the final 13 minutes of play on Monday.
The Owls took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Jon Roach and an A.J. Morse penalty kick within the first 10 minutes of play.
"We got off to a great start tonight," said Oscoda coach Gary Schneider. "Not our traditional slow start. We came right out of the blocks firing and controlling the ball.
"They made their big push at the end of the half and the beginning of the second. We let them tie it up but we came right back at them."
The Falcons' Robbie Kish got his team on the board with a score in the 28th minute, but Oscoda's Derek Boston answered in the 34th minute with a score off a long Ryan Clouse pass.
Ben Wiltse's score pulled Ogemaw to within 3-2 at the half, and Kish netted the equalizer nine minutes into the second half.
Roach's second goal of the night gave the Owls the lead for good and Josh DeOrnellas added an insurance goal with seven minutes left.
DeOrnellas, Clouse and Evan Dennis each picked up assists. Jeremy Smith (nine saves) and Coty Nolff (six) were in goal for the Owls (2-0). Clouse added six steals and seven intercepts, Dennis had four and four, Skylar Thurston added six intercepts, and Nolan Myles and Kyle McCausey each had four.
