OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Sept. 12, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights turned the tables on Oscoda on Friday, blanking the Owls 2-0 less than two weeks after dropping a 5-3 non-league decision to the same squad.
Robbie Kish scored twice for the Falcons, the first off Derek Hughey's indirect kick just inside the 18-yard line and the second an unassisted score. Both goals came about five minutes apart midway through the first half.
"It was a lot better outcome than the first time around with them," said Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "Since then we've corrected some things with our defense and it's good to see those things come together on the field."
Oscoda's best shot at scoring came late in the first half when Ogemaw keeper Sean McClintic briefly left the game with a bloody knee. Oscoda got off a quality shot, but backup keeper Ben Elliott was able to deflect the ball into friendly traffic, then pounced on it to keep the shutout alive.
McClintic made a point-blank save of a tough shot by the Owls' A.J. Morse midway through the second half after Morse, shielded by an Ogemaw defender, tried to drill one just inside the left post.
For the most part, the defenses kept quality scoring chances to a minimum. McClintic and Oscoda's Coty Nolff each finished with six saves.
"The only bright spot (for the Owls) was the play of Brandon McCausey, Evan Dennis, Shane Ruyts and Ryan Clouse," said Oscoda assistant coach Tim Colborn. Dennis finished with six intercepts to lead his squad.
Oscoda (5-2) travels to Tawas Area on Monday while the Falcons (4-4-1) play at John Glenn on Wednesday, Sept. 17.
