OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Sep. 10, 2008 - Whittemore-Prescott's soccer team gave Ogemaw Heights a battle on Wednesday, keeping the game close for a half before the Falcons pulled away in the second half to a 5-0 victory.

Ogemaw's Jordan Moore scored in the second minute, but the game stayed at 1-0 until Alan Baker scored seven minutes before the half.

"We got away from the things we'd started doing well against Tawas (two days earlier),' said Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "We definitely have a way of playing at the opponent's level. But a win is a win, and we can't feel too badly about that."

Ogemaw make it 3-0 in the seventh minute of the second half on a Robbie Kish goal, and added a penalty kick by Kyle Laney in the 25th minute and a score by Derek Hughey in the 33rd minute.

"We played a much better game," said W-P coach Ed Schulte. "We went into the game knowing that we were playing a very good team. The kids didn't back down and gave everything they had.

"Even after giving up the early goal, they buckled down and worked very hard. We saw improvement in many areas."

"I was really impressed with Whittemore's effort," Young said. "They always come to play and give you everything they've got."

Alex Waddell and Hughey had assists for the Falcons (3-4-1, 3-1 NEMC).

Schulte said goalkeeper Scott Garnett had a strong game in goal as well.

"He made some very tough saves," he said. "Having started the season with seven first-year players, we look to improve with each game. (Wednesday) we did."

The Cards fell to 0-6 (0-3).
