OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Aug. 27, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights earned its first victory of the season on Wednesday by holding off Standish-Sterling 3-1 in the North East Michigan Conference opener for both teams.

Ogemaw had gone 0-3-1 in its first four games against non-league foes, but built a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Robbie Kish and Derek Hughey in the 32nd and 34th minutes of the first half.

SSC got back in the game on a Kevin Schmidt goal early in the second half. but could get no closer. Shay Irving picked up the assist.

The Falcons got an insurance goal from Kish with four minutes left in the game.

Clayton Clemens assisted on Kish's first goal, and Sean McClintic had six saves.

Garrett Russell had 11 saves for the Panthers (0-3, 0-1), while Tanner Trombley (five shots on goal) and Irvin (four shots) led SSC in scoring chances.

SSC is at Oscoda and Ogemaw is at Pinconning on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
