GAYLORD - Aug. 22, 2008 - Gaylord's Blue Devils got a measure of revenge for the way the 2007 season ended by taking a 6-0 victory over Ogemaw Heights on Friday.
The Falcons, who ended Gaylord's season a year ago with a penalty kick shootout victory, were never really in Friday's contest, getting outshot 20-2.
"Seeing that, the score was about right," said Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "We moved the ball on them a bit, but we weren't able to generate any offense once we got down to their end of the field."
The Blue Devils scored goals at the 15th, 22nd and 33rd minutes of the first half and in the fourth, 12th and 25th minutes of the second half, the last one on a penalty kick.
Backup goalkeeper Ben Elliott drew the assignment against the perennially tough Blue Devils, and Young said he held up well under trying circumstances.
"Ben was put in a very tough spot," Young said. "He didn't do badly at all. He stopped a penalty kick in the first half. Most other games would have been a better position for him to start in; Gaylord is tough. They put a lot of shots on us."
The Falcons (0-2-1) next travel to former NEMC member Oscoda on Monday.
