Ogemaw Heights, Glenn both 2-1 at Bobcat Invite

JOHN GLENN - Sep. 20, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights and John Glenn both went 2-1 at Saturday's John Glenn Bobcat Soccer Invitational, a pool-play tournament in which teams played 30-minute halves rather than the usual 40-minute variety.

The two NEMC rivals didn't face one another.

The Falcons defeated Clare 6-2 and Chippewa Hills 2-0 but lost to Cadillac 2-0.

Ogemaw Heights got two goals from Jordan Moore, two by Ivan Calderone, one from Robbie Kish and one from Kyle Laney in the victory over Clare.  Ben Wiltse and Jordan Moore each had assists, while Sean McClintic had four saves and Alex Torro had one non-keeper save.

The only disappointment for Ogemaw coach Jeff Young for the day was his team's play in the loss to Cadillac.

"We'd had a rest, and Cadillac was playing back-to-back games," he said. "I think the time off hurt us, because they were game-ready and we definitely were not. We came out flat, and it was a game I felt we could have won."

McClintic had eight saves in that contest.

In the Chip Hills victory, the Falcons got scores from Kish and Derek Hughey, both unassisted.

McClintic had 11 saves, while Kish, Cordell Ponak and Laney each had non-keeper saves.

John Glenn blanked Chip Hills 5-0 and Clare 4-0 but lost 1-0 to Gaylord.

Ty Richards scored three goals and Stefan Michalsky had two against Chip Hills. Richards had his second hat trick of the day against Clare, with Michalsky adding a goal.

Gaylord went on to defeat Cadillac 1-0 in the championship game.

Ogemaw Heights (6-6-1) returns to NEMC play at Standish-Sterling on Monday, while Glenn (6-6) hosts Pinconning.
