OSCODA - Sep. 24, 2008 - Hale's boys and Tawas Area's girls won the four-team Oscoda Invitational on Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a total of 41 athletes competing in the race at Eagle run.
Hale's 32 points was good enough to edge Tawas (41), while the host Owls scored 64 and AuGres-Sims, with just two runners with 83.
AuGres-Sims' A.J. Baker won the boys race, finishing with a time of 17:56 and nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up, Tawas Area's Guy Cotter (18:50). Hale's Ryan Herzog took third (19:49), Oscoda's Travis Taylor finished fourth (21:21) and Hale's Caleb Parent placed fifth (21:39).
Tawas also had Tim Glasgow (6th, 21:44) and Matt Hughes (10th, 22:11) in the top 10, while Hale had Tyler Braun (21:53), Nathan Turland (8th, 22:00) and Casey Shuman (22:07).
The Tawas girls had three of the top four finishers in easily winning the team competition with 24 points, while Hale (61) took second, Oscoda (69) third and AuGres-Sims (74) fourth.
The Braves' Emily Short (21:57) won the race, 57 seconds ahead of teammate Chelsea Smith (22:54). Hale's Kelsey Scott (23:53) took third, followed by the Braves' Abbie Hutchison (24:15) and Oscoda's Mary Wood (24:23).
Also in the top 10 were AuGres-Sims' Adriane Swaffield (6th, 25:50) and Melissa Miller (9th, 26:08); Tawas Area's Katie McKenzie (7th, 25:59) and Haylee Hutchson (10th, 26:14); and Oscoda's Jessica Reinhard (8th, 25:59).
