BULLOCK CREEK - Sep. 6, 2008 - Ogemaw Heights' performance in the large school division of the Bullock Creek Invitational on Saturday led the way as five local schools competed in the 28-school event.

The Falcon boys finished fifth in the large-school division with 134 team points, behind Saginaw Heritage (33), Bay City Western (38), Alma (88) and Midland Dow (104).

Ogemaw's girls finished eighth with 218 points, with Bay City Western (41) claiming team honors.

Leading the Falcons were Martin Nelkie (15th, 17:29), Brian Valley (20th, 17:44) and Casey Taylor (26th, 18:03), with George Farmer, Mike Lentz and Bob Brent also finishing under 19 minutes.

The Ogemaw girls were led by Cara Crawford's 10th-place finish in 21:15.

In the small school division, the Tawas Area girls had the top team and individual performances. The Braves (167) edged out host Bullock Creek (172) for fourth place. Emily Short (9th, 22:08) and Chelsea Smith (19th, 22:51) led the way for the Braves.

Emily Podgorniak (29th, 23:38) and Shannon MacDougall (37th, 23:47) led Pinconning to an 11th-place team finish.

Hale's girls took 14th, with Kelsey Scott (81st, 26:47) leading the Eagles.

Oscoda's Maggie Ungurean (35th, 23:45) led the Owls, who didn't field enough runners to figure in the team scoring.

In the small school boys' race, Tawas Area's Guy Cotter (14th, 18:19) led area runners, though the Braves finished 13th overall.

Hale (12th) was led by Ryan Herzog, who placed 36th (19:55), while Pinconning (14th) was paced by Derrick Luczynski (32nd, 19:14) and Oscoda (15th) was led by Travis Taylor (76th, 21:42).
