OGEMAW HEIGHTS - Dec. 14, 2006 - Rogers City swept to victories of 36-27 over Ogemaw Heights and 63-9 over Oscoda in an abbreviated three-way meet on Thursday.

Alpena was scheduled to participate as well, as Ogemaw and Oscoda won't face off in dual meet competition until their league contest in January. Without the Wildcats, each school faced the Division 4 power.

Ogemaw lost a close match to the Hurons, with starters Zach Jameson (145) and Kyle James (285) missing the match due to illness.

Winning matches for the Falcons were Andrew Funsch (125), Rob Goulette (140), Matt Franklin (171), Scott Kimball (189), Corey Lambert (215) and Carl Worthy (285).

The Owls were wrestling short-handed, voiding seven weight classes (giving up 42 points before the match even started).

"Our goal was to be competitive in the matches we had, and I think we did," said Oscoda coach Tony Lopez.

The Owls had one win by void (Todd Kerentoff at 215) and got a win on the mat from Bobby Moore (189), who took a 16-15 decision. Several of the individual losses were impressive, though; Justin Andrick (171) lost to two-time state medalist Chase McLennan 11-7 and Gerald Martinez (160) went the distance with state qualifier Jerome Gapezynski in a 12-2 loss. Tim Ruby (152) also went the distance, falling 8-5 to Tyler Schuteman. Only one match ended in a first-period pin.

"I was pleased with our performance," Lopez said.

The Falcons are 5-3 and Oscoda 1-4 in dual meet competition.
