Ogemaw sweeps Tawas, SSC; Braves edge Panthers

STANDISH-STERLING - Jan. 11, 2007 - Ogemaw Heights proved to have far more than either Standish-Sterling or Tawas Area could handle on the wrestling mat Thursday, defeating the Panthers 60-18 and Tawas 75-3.

The Braves, however, won their first NEMC match since the rebirth of their program in edging SSC 36-34.

In the Tawas-SSC match, voids cost the Panthers dearly. The Panthers had to void five weight classes, while Tawas gave up just two, an 18-point edge for the Braves.

Tawas got wins on the mat from J.D. Putz (125), Robert Dosh (135), Tom Domerese (140), Brandon Crossnoe (145) and wins by void from Ethan Oslund (112), Chris Ross (215) and Jordan Winters (103), the last of which helped Tawas overcome a 34-30 deficit.

The Panthers had wins from Bryan Jones (119), Dewey Milan (160), Machylle Porter (171), Wes Dunn (189) and Mark Stawowy (215).

The Braves' only winner against Ogemaw was Jeremy Fuller (119), while SSC had wins from Jones, Milan, Porter, and in the best match of the night, a 4-3 decision by Stawowy over Carl Worthy at 285.

Double-winners for Ogemaw on the night were Andrew Funsch (125), Michael Lentz (130), Bruce Vermillion (135), Rob Goulette (140), Zach Jameson (145), Matt Franklin (160) and Scott Kimball (189).
