OSCODA - Dec. 16, 2006 - Whittemore-Prescott rolled through pool play at the Oscoda Invitational on Saturday, but had a disappointing finish in a first-round elimination loss to Gladwin.
The Cards defeated Oscoda 25-16, 25-18, Ogemaw Heights 25-18, 21-25, 15-14; AuGres-Sims 25-14, 25-20; and Standish-Sterling 25-18, 25-9. W-P also picked up a win when Gladwin forfeited its pool contest as a time-saving measure, since it didn't effect the elimination round seeding.
The Flying G's then ended W-P's day with a 25-21, 25-12 victory.
"I thought the girls played well until their match with Gladwin," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "It was disappointing to see the communication and defense fall apart after playing so well earlier in the day."
Statistical leaders for W-P included Catherine Daniels with 44 service points, 19 aces and six blocks; Stephanie Aviles with 37 assists; Katie Borushko with 40 digs; and Erica Loomis with 38 spike kills.
The Cards close out their pre-Christmas schedule with a home contest Monday against Arenac Eastern.
