WHITTEMORE-PRESCOTT - Feb. 19, 2007 - Whittemore-Prescott hosted Lincoln-Alcona and Hale on Monday, easily getting by the Tigers before hanging on to defeat a game Hale squad in the second match.
W-P took Alcona in a brief two-game match, 25-5, 25-9, then when four games with Hale, winning 25-17, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21. Hale defeated Alcona in the other match, 27-25, 25-14.
"I thought the girls played well and consistent the first four games of the night," said W-P coach Helen Loomis. "In Game 3 against Hale, serving errors and defensive mistakes cost us, and Hale played very well those last two games, especially on defense.
"Erica Loomis's consistent hitting helped out tremendously, along with strong back row (play) from Katie Borushko."
Loomis finished with 30 kills, 28 digs, 16 service points and three aces, while Borushko had 25 digs, 16 points and two aces. Also for W-P, Miranda Oakley had 29 points and eight aces; Catherine Daniels had 15 points, four aces, three blocks, 12 digs and 17 kills; Ashley Foco had 57 assists; Katie Eymer had five kills and two blocks; Madie O'Farrell had 15 digs and 12 kills; and Heather Popielarz had seven kills and a block.
For Hale, Terra Kelso had five aces; Heather Albaugh had six digs; Rachel Maher had seven digs; Elizabeth Lerczak had two kills and eight digs; Tarra Caverly had four aces and eight assists; Rachel Bunner had two kills; and Sabrina Provoast had four aces, three kills and 11 digs.
The Cards (26-9-4) next play at the NEMC finals at Standish-Sterling on Saturday, Feb. 25.
